Seedance Credit Cost Per Video: What a Finished Minute Actually Costs

Quick answer: On fal's public API, Seedance 2.0 runs $0.3034 per second at 720p standard, $0.2419 on the fast tier, and roughly $0.14 at 480p. That makes 60 raw seconds cost $14.51 to $18.20 — but a finished minute, after the takes you throw away, lands nearer $35 to $55.

Every pricing page for AI video quotes you the same thing: a rate per second, or a number of credits per clip. Neither one tells you what you actually want to know, which is what it costs to end up with a minute of footage you would put in front of an audience. Those are different numbers, and the gap between them is where the real Seedance credit cost hides — and where independent creators blow their budgets.

This is the arithmetic, using rates published by the platforms themselves in 2026. No estimates dressed up as facts.

What does one second of Seedance video actually cost?

On fal, Seedance 2.0 bills $0.3034 per second at 720p standard, $0.3024 for image-to-video, and $0.2419 across every fast-tier endpoint. Seedance 2.5 costs more at roughly $0.4730 per second at 720p. Audio is included in all of those rates, whether you generate it or not.

Here is the published rate card on fal's Seedance 2.0 endpoint, alongside the newer 2.5 model:

Model and tier480p720pMax clip length
Seedance 2.0 standard (text to video)~$0.141/s$0.3034/s15s
Seedance 2.0 fast (all endpoints)$0.2419/s15s
Seedance 2.0 reference-to-video, with video input~$0.1814/s15s
Seedance 2.5~$0.2205/s~$0.4730/s30s

Two of those deserve a flag. The reference-to-video rate drops because feeding a video file into the pipeline applies a 0.6x multiplier, so a clip built from an existing shot is the cheapest thing Seedance 2.0 makes. And the 480p figure is derived rather than quoted — more on that in a second.

The formula underneath the rate

Per-second pricing is a convenience. The real meter is tokens, and fal publishes the formula on the Seedance 2.5 model page:

tokens = (output height × output width × duration in seconds × 24) / 1024

The 24 is the frame rate. Seedance 2.0 charges $0.014 per 1,000 tokens at 480p, 720p and 1080p, and $0.008 per 1,000 at 4K. Run a 16:9 720p frame (1280×720) through it and you get 21,600 tokens per second, which prices out at $0.3024 — exactly fal's published image-to-video rate. The formula checks out, which is why the 480p figure above is trustworthy: a 16:9 480p frame is 864×496, or 10,044 tokens per second, or about $0.141.

Knowing the formula matters because it tells you the one thing the rate card hides: you are paying for pixels per second, not for clips. A 720p frame contains 2.15 times the area of a 480p frame, and costs 2.15 times as much per second of runtime.

How much does a finished minute of Seedance video cost?

Budget three generations for every second that survives the cut. At 720p standard that turns a $18.20 raw minute into roughly $55; the fast tier lands near $44. Drafting at 480p first and only finishing keepers at 720p brings the same minute down to about $35.

The take ratio nobody budgets for

Raw minute costs are easy: multiply the per-second rate by 60. The honest number needs a second multiplier, the take ratio, and three attempts per keeper is a conservative figure for anything with a specific creative brief. Two is optimistic. Five is normal when you are chasing a particular camera move or holding a character's face steady across shots.

Route60 raw secondsFinished minute at 3 takes per keeper
Seedance 2.0, 480p standard$8.44$25.31
Seedance 2.0, 720p fast$14.51$43.54
Seedance 2.0, 720p standard$18.20$54.61
Seedance 2.5, 720p$28.38$85.14
Seedance 2.0 reference-to-video with video input$10.88$32.65

The lever that pays for itself is drafting cheap. Take an 8-second shot. Two 480p drafts cost $2.25; the final 720p pass costs $2.43, for $4.68 per keeper. Doing all three takes at 720p costs $7.28. Across the 7.5 shots that fill a minute, that is $35.08 against $54.61 — a 36% cut for a workflow change that costs you nothing but the discipline to stop finishing drafts you are going to discard.

This is also why a per-second rate flatters every AI video tool in the category. It measures the machine's output, not yours.

Why does the same clip cost different credits on different platforms?

Because a credit is a private currency, not a unit of compute. One published comparison found a single 8-second 720p clip drawing 52 credits on one platform and 3,520 on another, yet landing about a dollar apart in real money. Credit counts never travel between services.

That comparison comes from a vendor blog, so read the ranking with appropriate suspicion — the platform that published it comes out on top. The credit counts themselves are checkable, and they make the structural point better than any neutral source we found:

PlatformCheapest qualifying planCredits in planCredits per 8s 720p clipCost per clip
Dreamina$191,575296$3.57
Higgsfield$491,00052$2.55
Runway$15625240$5.76
OpenArt$144,0001,040$3.64
Magnific$2020,0003,520$3.52

Read the rows, not the columns. Runway's plan is the cheapest on the shelf and produces the fewest clips, because a small credit pool and a high draw compound against each other. The only number that transfers between platforms is dollars per finished second, and you have to compute it yourself every time. Anyone quoting a Seedance credit cost without naming the platform is quoting nothing.

ByteDance's own consumer platform describes the same four levers on its Seedance 2.0 Mini pricing page: resolution, duration, audio on or off, and reference inputs. It declines to publish a fixed credit table, which is candid in its way — the rates move.

What a credit is worth on a bundled platform

Bundled platforms that put several engines behind one pool are a different calculation again. On the Seeddance plan page, annual billing puts Basic at $9.90/month for 150 credits, Pro at $19.90 for 350, Max at $34.90 for 750, and Pro Max at $59.90 for 1,500. The unit price falls from $0.066 per credit to $0.040 as you scale, and every paid tier carries a commercial licence and watermark-free exports. A free tier issues one credit every 24 hours, watermarked.

The advertised render counts — 15 a month on Basic, up to 150 on Pro Max — work out to about 10 credits per render, which only holds at the cheapest engine and settings. Frontier models draw far more per second, and the per-second credit rate differs by engine by more than a factor of ten. Read the quote the interface shows you before each render rather than trusting any published table, including this one. Our free credits guide covers what the daily credit can and cannot do.

Which settings actually move your Seedance bill?

Resolution and duration, in that order. Moving from 480p to 720p multiplies frame area by 2.15 and the price with it. Duration is linear. Speed tier saves about 20 percent. Aspect ratio barely matters, and switching audio off saves nothing at all on Seedance 2.0.

Where Seedance is the wrong answer on price

It is not the cheapest per second, and pretending otherwise would be useless to you. fal's own comparison puts Veo 3.1's Lite tier at $0.05 per second with audio at 720p — a raw minute for $3.00 against Seedance 2.0 standard's $18.20. Veo's fast tier is $0.15 per second, its standard tier $0.40.

Two other limits are worth naming before you commit a project. Seedance 2.0's text-to-video schema exposes only 480p and 720p, and fal's model comparison lists its maximum output resolution as 720p against Veo 3.1's 4K — a 1080p rate of $0.682 per second appears on the pricing table, but treat 1080p delivery as an upscale step rather than a native option. And with a 15-second ceiling per render, anything longer is a stitch job; our guide to making AI videos longer than 10 seconds covers the joins.

What Seedance buys at that price is native synchronised audio, multi-shot sequences with labelled cuts, and up to 9 images, 3 videos and 3 audio clips as references in a single generation. If your project needs none of that, cheaper models will do.

Costing a real music video

A 3.5-minute track is 210 finished seconds. At 720p standard with three takes per keeper, that is $191.14 of generation. On the fast tier, $152.40. With 480p drafting and 720p finals, $122.77. Building shots from a reference video instead of from text drops it further still.

Compare that against a modest live shoot and the maths is not close, which is the actual argument for the format. It is also why the take ratio is the number to manage: halving your discards saves more than switching platforms ever will. We break the full production budget down in our AI music video cost guide and our look at what a music video costs an independent artist.

What we would actually do

Storyboard first, so you know your shot count before you spend anything. Draft every shot at 480p on the fast tier and accept that most of those frames are disposable. Promote only approved shots to 720p. Use reference-to-video wherever a shot can be derived from one you already have, and leave audio generation on because it is free. That sequence cuts the effective Seedance credit cost by roughly a third if you are paying per second on an API; on a bundled credit plan it is the difference between a month of runway and a week.

If you would rather not run four API accounts, a bundled platform with one credit pool across engines is the simpler path — you can compare the engines on a single credit balance and let the per-render quote tell you the truth before each generation. Our pay-as-you-go breakdown covers the no-subscription route if your work is bursty.

Frequently asked questions

How many credits does one Seedance video cost?+

There is no single answer, because credits are a per-platform currency. The same 8-second 720p clip has been measured drawing 52 credits on one service and 3,520 on another, landing about a dollar apart in real money. Convert to dollars per second before comparing anything, and check the quote your interface shows before each render.

Is Seedance cheaper than Veo or Runway for music videos?+

Not on raw price. Veo 3.1's Lite tier runs $0.05 per second with audio at 720p, against $0.3034 for Seedance 2.0 standard. Seedance earns its rate through native synchronised audio, multi-shot cuts, and up to 9 image, 3 video and 3 audio references per generation. If your project needs none of that, cheaper models will do the job.

Does turning off audio reduce the Seedance credit cost?+

No. Seedance 2.0 generates picture and sound in a single pass and bills the same rate whether the generate_audio parameter is on or off. There is no saving available, so leave it enabled and take the soundtrack. The settings that genuinely move the bill are resolution first, then duration, then speed tier.

What is the cheapest way to make a full minute of Seedance video?+

Draft at 480p, finish at 720p. Two 480p drafts plus one 720p final costs $4.68 for an 8-second shot, against $7.28 for three 720p takes. Across the 7.5 shots in a minute that is $35.08 versus $54.61, a 36% saving for a workflow change rather than a platform change.

How long can a single Seedance clip be?+

Seedance 2.0 renders 4 to 15 seconds per generation, with an auto setting that picks a length to suit the content. Seedance 2.5 doubles the ceiling to 30 seconds in a single pass and accepts far more reference inputs. Anything longer than the ceiling has to be stitched from multiple renders.
